Pupils' artwork in the frame for Commonwealth Games 2014
Scotland's school pupils will showcase their artistic talents to the world by creating Games-inspired artwork for the Athletes' Village at the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games.
Using the Games and its 17 sports as creative inspiration, primary and secondary pupils will be challenged to come up with 6,500 pieces of artwork to decorate bedrooms in the Athletes' Village where the athletes and officials from across the Commonwealth will be staying. This unique opportunity was announced at the launch of Game On Scotland, the official education programme for the Games. Each registered school will submit 8 winning entries for display.
Garnetbank pupils have already started to create their posters for a school wide competition. Mrs Morison and the pupil council have the difficult task of choosing two entries from our lower, middle and upper classes. The two remaining posters will be chosen from each of our after school Art Clubs.
The winning designs will be gifted to the visitors as a memento of their time in Scotland, and athletes will be encouraged to send a note expressing their personal thanks back to the young artists.
The deadline for entries to our school competition is Friday 14th February, while the final deadline for all Glasgow Posters to be submitted is 28th February.
Within this album you can view the finalists from each class and both of our Art Groups.
Good luck everyone!
